With the Brisbane river within view, in a leafy area with lots of cafés, bars, restaurants and around 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s no surprise that the Lonely Planet travel guide recently called Newstead one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Australia. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the town centre, making it a very popular place to work. This was a good enough reason for Wilkhahn to look for suitable options as a showroom there.
And they struck lucky at 17 Byres Street. The new building, planned by local firm Cavill Architects (in collaboration with Hogg & Lamb), is an ideal place to showcase Wilkhahn furniture perfectly. The three-storey, bright white building with its spacious atrium, light-flooded interior and subtle sun protection solutions, which lend the facade structure, is an impressive sight. For the interior, Outline Design Office, which is also located in Brisbane, created a boutique workspace for Wilkhahn on the second floor with lots of different usage options because the space isn’t just occupied by a showroom but by a co-working space too.
Whether people want to work in peace on their own or as part of groups, or need to hold meetings, all settings focus on the feel-good factor. Lots of natural daylight, carefully chosen materials and luscious greenery give the rooms a personal touch. “The Wilkhahn products used throughout showcase how their diverse product ranges can elevate innovation, support collaboration and respond to the need for flexibility”, comments Jacinta Condon, CEO of Outline Design Office.
Following Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane is the third showroom in Australia. Sales staff in Canberra and Perth complete the Wilkhahn sales network down under. The company has its own factory, which is the basis for sales in the whole Asia-Pacific region, in the affluent suburbs of Sydney.
