It’s like leafing through a particularly attractive photo album. With its themed collections, the iF design award provides lively reminders of the history of design culture. Wilkhahn is mentioned several times in the recently published edition of the iF design special on architecture & urban design. One of the items featured includes the 1200 Bench system which was designed by Friso Kramer, won the iF design award in 1969 and subsequent variations went on to garner awards too. The modular bench has a slender aluminium frame that can be linked with further elements. The organic seat shell made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic means the furniture is ideal indoors or outdoors. The 1200 Bench wrote design history at the latest when the city of Munich used it to fit out the metro station “Olympiabahnhof” on the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games.
