Anyone going to Design District Rotterdam from 6 to 8 June 2018 can expect an exceptional show. It all starts with the location: the Van Nelle Factory is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where coffee, tea and tobacco were packaged in the past. The facilities have been in the hands of creatives since the end of the 1990s. The space has offices, shops and display sections and a museum is to open there soon.
Wilkhahn has been one of the first tenants at the Van Nelle Factory since 2001. It didn’t just open a showroom but also moved its Dutch headquarters into the erstwhile factory. Wilkhahn shifted to another more modern showroom in the factory in 2017. It was also involved in furnishing the new lunch restaurant at the heart of the Van Nelle Factory. Visitors dine on Chassis chairs when they come here. Wilkhahn opens up its doors and is actively involved in all art and design events whether it’s a case of ART Rotterdam or Design District Rotterdam.
Some 200 interior design brands will be at this year’s Design District Rotterdam. The organisers are expecting 7,000 visitors. The show covers floor space of 10,000 square metres, but doesn’t just restrict itself to presenting products. Academies and up-and-coming designers are also given the opportunity to present their designs. Talks and discussions round off the programme.
As a result, Design District Rotterdam is also a must for the professional organisation Facilitair Management NL (FMN) that will be carrying out a special tour for its members on Friday, 6 June 2018. They’ll be visiting six select exhibitors, including Wilkhahn, to find out about new office furniture trends. They will be given a guided tour of the showroom and have the chance to look at new products and ask questions. Therefore, it’s practically a given that the new AT office chair range had to be premiering in the Netherlands. After all, the range of different types and designs for the third chair in Wilkhahn’s free-to-move range makes it an interesting option for facility managers and interior designers alike.
The Van Nelle Factory is also the perfect venue from a historical point of view. When it was built in the middle of the 1920s, it was considered the ideal factory with daylight in the halls ensuring pleasant working conditions. So it’s all the more logical that this environment should still be providing stimuli for new styles of working right up until today.
