Book premiere: Best of German Interior Design

22.09.2017
Design talk at the book’s premiere – from left to right: Prof. Dirk Boll, president of Christie’s Europe, Angelika Müller (moderator), publishing director H.O.M.E., Annika Murjahn, strategic marketing manager, DAW SE, as well as Manuel Goller, CEO of NEW TENDENCY.

This book is a heavyweight in every sense. Because if a renowned publishing house gets together with prominent editors and an equally well-known supervisory board to compile a book of the 50 most important German designers and producers, we can assume that it will attract attention. Which is why the lavish new Best of German Interior Design publication is more than just a particularly classy coffee table book. You could say it’s a review of German design expertise in 2017.

The list of designers ranges from A for Aisslinger to W for Wortmann and many of them have already worked for Wilkhahn. Examples are Stefan Diez with the Chassis chair range, Cologne-based designer Eric Degenhardt with the Velas lounge chair or the designer duo Julia Läufer and Marcus Keichel with the Ceno four-leg chair. The producers selected range from carpet, lighting or wallpaper manufacturers. And last but not least, there’s also a four-page chapter on Wilkhahn as a maker of high-quality office furniture.

The publisher’s forward makes clear that: “We want readers to decide for themselves which of these examples reveal the typical characteristics of German design.” That’s no easy task considering the vast choice. But it’s fun to make an attempt nevertheless.

The book can be ordered for €58 from DISTANZ Verlag at: www.distanz.de
