Adding more movement to a bank’s new build

24.08.2016 | by Wilkhahn Germany

The extra area gained in front of the four-storey building continues inside as a light-flooded atrium. The atrium boasts ingenious stairways plus a clever wayfinding system. It acts as a guide, pointing people towards the areas of the building that are dedicated to different purposes.

The architects have skilfully created a sequence of spaces rich in contrasts. While the compact new building (designed as a convex, curved rectangle) has dark facades, visitors encounter light-flooded spaces inside. Glass panels separate some of the offices from the surrounding gallery, ensuring an appealing, communicative atmosphere which is boosted by narrow yellow to orange stripes.

The desire for good design and an anything-but-static environment are reflected again in the fixtures and fittings. Fitted items appear to be part of the architecture, while Wilkhahn’s multi-award-winning ON office chairs throughout the building provide stylish and dynamic options. They come in the form of office task chairs with three-dimensional movement at desks, or as traditional cantilever chairs at the small and large conference tables. The conference room on the bank’s top floor with full glass panelling is a highlight. It features very flexible furniture in the shape of the mobile, flip-top Wilkhahn Timetable range. From here it’s possible to gain direct access to the large rooftop patio which provides a panoramic view over the roofs of the idyllic town with its lovely half-timbered buildings. This space is too attractive to use merely for conferences.
